Rescuing
Democracy in the United Kingdom from our current Elected Dictatorship
|
You will
notice that, since New Labour came to power, not a single
leading Cabinet member or party 'heavy hitter' has appeared
on the programme (BBC's Question Time). Spin, not face-to-face
confrontations with the voters, is the Government's chosen
method of communication. Ordinary
people are dangerous. Ordinary people might ask a question
which throws a politician 'off message'; the Cabinet member
might reveal himself or herself to be a human being like
us, and not a programmed android. Worse still, he or she
might tell the truth.

We're
off on the road to Brussels
The Road to
Brussels - with apologies to Bob Hope and Bing Crosby)
We're
off on the road to old Brussels
So Tony has told us today
Where they're goin', why we're goin', how can we be sure
I'll lay eight to five that we'll bump into Monsieur Jacques Delors.
We're
off on the pathway to Paris
As guests of Monsieur Chirac
I hear this country's where they have Madame la Guillotine
Is that where eurosceptics' heads will hang out on a line.
We
surely have swallowed the bait
Like a fat fish that's been hooked, we all now know our fate.
Someone
ought to write better lyrics for our new anthem - 'Road to Brussels',
sung to the Hope-Crosby refrain - 'Road to Morocco', because that's
where Tony Blair and his cronies are leading British people. He
frightens us by pointing to the black hole of economic disaster,
claiming that rejection of his plans will lead to us falling into
it, and hoping we're dumb enough to trust and believe him despite
his tortuous lies and deceptions over his war in Iraq.
The
European Constitution agreed late on June 18, 2004, will leave
no corner of British life untouched as it takes a massive stride
towards a European superstate. The key changes are:
FOREIGN
POLICY
Creates
an EU Foreign Minister, complete with its own Diplomatic Corps.
Britain
could have to surrender its seat on UN Security Council to the
new minister
Britain
must 'actively and unreservedly' support a common EU foreign policy
DEFENCE
Creates
a common EU defence polity which can threaten NATO
CRIMINAL
JUSTICE AND ASYLUM
New
European Public Prosecutor can haul people for trial before UK
courts
Gives
EU the right to set minimum standards in defining offences and
setting sentences
Creates
a common asylum and immigration policy
ECONOMY
AND EMPLOYMENT
'Ensure
co-ordination of economic and employment policies', undermining
our flexible labour market
SOVEREIGNTY
States
explicitly that EU law has primacy over British law
Britain
surrenders more than 20 vetoes
CHARTER
OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS
Gives
workers a right to strike. European Court of Justice says this
changes our labour laws
Creates
a right to asylum
