Spin, not

us, and not a programmed android. Worse still, he or she
might tell the truth. Ann Leslie

What
does our imploding Home Office do, when a visitor from
Ghana overstays his visa and becomes an illegal immigrant?
Why, it lets him go on living here. And then - in a stroke
of surreal genius - it finds
him a job as an immigration officer.
Now
James Dawute is suspended for allegedly demanding sexual
favours from an asylum seeker. The officials who appointed
him are still in place, still taking decisions. You thought
it couldn't get worst at the Home Office? Stay tuned.

Letter
from Colin Kittle, Little Haywood, Staffs. - Daily Mail,
April 27, 2005
My
wife and I have just returned from a hotel in Eastbourne
where we noticed most of the staff were from eastern European
countries. While there, we visited a nearby hotel where
we had stayed 10 years ago and were surprised to find
the tour company that had owned it then had sold it to
a private owner who has DSS claimants living there.
A
young man outside said not only that hotel but a number
of others along the same road were occupied by people
such as him, living on state benefits. He told us he was
looking for work, but found it hard to find a suitable
job.
When
we mentioned that the staff serving us and cleaning out
rooms came from abroad, he said: "They can work for
low wages if they want to, but I'm not working for pennies."
I
later mentioned this to our hotel owner. He told me it
was hard trying to employ local people because they want
to work only part-time so their benefits aren't affected.
Why
work at all?
Letter

The
reason a bus company is having to employ 1,000 drivers
from eastern Europe (Mail) has nothing to do with not
having enough skilled people here. That is this lying
Government's excuse for unfilled jobs.
It's
actually because of the Government's great social experiment
in paying people who don't go to work almost as much as
those who do is now resulting in ever larger numbers of
people better off either on the black economy or producing
children and collecting handouts. They are all paid for
by those of us foolish enough to work and pay taxes -
the same people who will be forced to buy ID cards at
extortionate cost while those on benefits will be given
them free.

I have a much-loved daughter-in-law and several good

in my motorhome. On arrival at Dover for the outward

for my destination, the reason for my trip and whether
I was carrying any handguns.
When
I last visited Florida, I recall being asked if I
intended to undertake any subversive activity against
the U.S. government during my stay. I reassured myself
that only the Americans would be stupid enough to
ask such a daft question. I was wrong.
Next,
I was asked whether I had any offensive weapons on
board. I replied that I didn't think so. The security
officer clearly thought I was being facetious, but
I was actually doing a quick mental inventory of my
motorhome - one carving knife, one paring knife, four
cutlery knives, four forks, one Stanley knife and
two long screwdrivers in the toolkit and, as we had
been told to prepare for bad weather, a large shovel.
I
had no such interrogation when I returned to England.
Clearly this Government is far more concerned with

Daily Mail, March 20, 2005
It's
a shambles
Having
just retired from the UK Immigration Service after
34 years, I know why our immigration control is such
a shambles. 'Immigration authorities' are blamed,
by which, I assume, is meant civil servants. In fact,
those we should blame are our MPs who make the rules
that civil servants have to implement.
We
once had an embarkation control system to check that
visitors left on time, but it was abolished by Mike
O'Brien, the first Labour minister for immigration
just after Labour came to power in 1997. Parliament's
excellent website, (research paper 99/16) records
a speech made by Mike O'Brien on March 16, 1998, specifically
announcing this decision - to save £3 million.
The
UK Immigration Service was once the most efficient,
most effective and cheapest in the world until it
was remodelled by the Government into the current
politically correct, ineffective shambles. Immigration
staff are dedicated to doing a good job, but their
efforts are continually frustrated by the incompetence
of those they serve.
The
£3 million saving made in 1998 looks pretty
silly when compared with the real cost we will have
to pay to get rid of the present shambles. John

Canada's
Healthcare
Michael
Howard is spot on with what he wants to do with the
NHS. I'm British and live in Canada, but I worked
for the NHS for 25 years and did notice that 'health
tourists' were starting to creep in. When we came
here for my husband's job, I was on a visitor's permit.
After being here for six months I needed to see a
doctor for a minor ailment and soon discovered that,
unlike the UK, I couldn't just sign on with a GP as
a temporary patient.
The
procedure was to go to the nearest hospital emergency
room - despite the fact that this was not an emergency
- and there you would see a doctor, but not before
paying £150. When he gave me a prescription
for six antibiotic tablets, I had to pay a further
£45 to get is dispensed.
When
my husband's job was extended, I then had to become
a 'Landed Immigrant'. The procedure for Landed Immigrants
cost me £1,500 for lawyers, £400 of which
went on a comprehensive medical. It included a chest
X-ray to check for TB, a blood test to look for Hepatitis
B and C, and HIV.
I
was also given a full eye examination. All done to
make sure that I wouldn't be a drain on the Canadian
Health Service. Luckily, I am quite healthy. Once
I obtained Landed Immigrant status I was free to see
a Canadian doctor free of charge, but then I had to
join a drug plan as prescriptions are charged at full
cost if one is not a member.
One
more thing Mr Howard might like to implement if he
becomes Prime Minister; as a Landed Immigrant I had
to go to court with a sponsor who promised that he
could support me financially. This is because you
cannot claim from the Canadian welfare system for
the first ten years of your residency. Letter to
the Daily Mail from Tricia Cousins, Georgetown, Ontario
- February 22, 2005.
A
crazy scheme ...
So
Mr Blair is quite happy to 'ease the workload of immigration
officials' (Mail, April 12, 2005) and to allow anybody
with dodgy credentials to come barging into the country
when-ever they feel like it, provided that they promise
to come back and get things sorted out within 48 hours.
He
has obviously taken leave of his senses. He clearly
want to ensure that somehow, some-where, a determined
terrorist finally slips into the contry unchallenged
and pulls off the big one. And who will benefit politically
from that? Letter to the Daily Mail from

The

is that Britain will come under almost continual pressure

Rt
Hon Michael Howard QC, MP - Sept. 22, 2004
Immigration
accounts for almost two-thirds of the population growth in the
UK, it is claimed by Migration Watch, an independent Think-Tank.
At current levels, it will accouht for 85% over the next 30 years.
In the five years to 2002, immigration made up 60% of the increase
in UK population. Figures from the Office for National Statistics
reveal that net immigration for the period was 790,000 - an average
of 158,000 per year.
The
National Criminal Intelligence Service has recently revealed
that immigation could be six times higher than official figures
suggest.England
is already 12 times as densely populated as the US and the most
crowded in Europe. Before you complain that the comparison is
wih England, not including Scotland or Wales, the Government's
own figures reveal that three quarters of all immigrants settle
in London and the South East of England. Population statistics
reveal an astonishing fact that England is more crowded than India.
This
Government argues that there are half a million jobs in Britainwaiting
to be filled. But what about over two million native British who
are currently on welfare and want to work?
Tony
Blair has said that 220,000 people were refused visas in 2002,
but did not mention the 1.5 million visas that were issued. These
legal visitors are not checked when they leave, so Blunkett has
admitted that "he hasn't a clue" who is, or is not in
this country.
Sir
Andrew Green, Chairman of Migration Watch, says: "The reality
is that our border controls have been crumbling for a decade.
The same applies to the Government's efforts to prevent illegal
working. Last year, only one employer was successfully prosecuted."
Ministers
have been on the defensive since the Eastern Europe visas scandal
which cost Immigration Minister Beverley Hughes her job. Critics
accuse the Government of triggering the fastest level of immigration
in Britain's history without informing or consulting the public.
One
in 12 people living in Britain came here as an immigrant, official
figures revealed last night. They show that the influx of foreigners
has accelerated sharply in recent years - particularly since Labour
came to power in 1997.
A record
513,000 people settled here in 2002, almost double the figure
of 266,000 ten years ago, says the Office of National Statistics.
And the true immigration figures are certain to be far higher..
Read the full report of Daily
Mail's Matthew Hickley.
Immigration
to the United Kingdom must be given the highest priority. All
visas issued must have a time limit. Legal visitors and workers
should be checked in for a finite period, and checked out when
their time has expired and they have to leave. No
one should expect to enter the UK legally and be automatically,
or by default, allowed to remain indefinitely.
Hundreds
of illegal immigrants and asylum seekers are vanishing after the
Government ruled they should receive notice they are about to
be arrested and kicked out of Britain. Under the directive. all
illegal entrants, immigrants facing deportation and those overstaying
their visas, who have families with children aged under 18, must
be told of their imminent detention. Read the full report here.
There
is also mounting concern over studies which suggest that up to
70% of marriages in Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities are
arranged with people from these countries, with schoolgirls being
forced into marriages with men from their parents' country of
origin.
Immigration
by Asians though arranged marriages has more than doubled over
the past ten years, Think-tank, Migrationwatch UK, has claimed.
More than 20,000 people a year from the Indian sub-continent are
thought to be using it - compared to fewer than 10,000 in 1996.
Six in ten Pakistani and Bangladeshi marriages in Bradford in
2001 were with a spouse from the country of origin, often leading
to unhappiness and abuse.
A
law requiring couples to prove their wedding was not a cover for
illegal immigration was scrapped by Tony Blair in 1992. Michael
Howard wants to reintroduce the Primary Purpose Rule, and also
to set an annual quota for immigration, taking into account UK
economic needs and justifiable demands for family reunion.

HIV costs the NHS £345m, there have been demands
to test all 'high risk' immigrants. The Department of Health
said the Government was carrying out a review of immigration and

health and NHS expenditure, consider all relevant issues including
